In the past, even small-scale base stations needed to install a variety of equipment, including switches, wireless access points, and WAN optimization equipment. The Cisco Integrated Services Router (ISR) is a “super router” that can integrate the network services provided by multiple such devices into a single platform. These routers can not only integrate multiple services, but also can add new services flexibly by activating licenses and/or adding expansion modules as needed. The use of these routers can make the network configuration easier, thereby helping to reduce equipment costs as well as operating and maintenance costs.
